RDFR SELLS YOUNG GUNS TO AMERICA
02 October 2008
RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group, has closed another groundbreaking deal with MSNBC (part of NBC) in the US for the acquisition of Firecracker Films’ explosive documentary Young Guns. This is MSNBC’s second acquisition from RDFR this year, and is only the fourth time MSNBC has ever acquired European programming. Earlier this year RDFR sold them Secrets of the Austrian Cellar for the “Doc Block” time slot.
This is a well-made program about an important issue in the United States. The filmmaker’s fresh perspective and great access will offer our audience insights into the significant role of firearms in everyday American life, particularly in rural America.” said Scott Hooker, MSNBC Senior Executive Producer of Documentary Production & Development.”
Young Guns has also been picked up by eight other broadcasters: Nine Network Australia, Vlaamse Media Mattschappij NV Belgium, TV Norge Norway, Kanal 2 Estonia, TV4 AB Sweden, TVNZ New Zealand, SBS Broadcasting BV Netherlands and Channel 4 Nelonen Finland.
Young Guns is a jaw-dropping insight into a world of big guns and small children. Provocative and explosive, this character-led documentary follows three American families who are passionate about guns, and whose parents are eagerly training their kids to use fire arms, from a six year-old shooting an AK-47 to a seven year-old wielding her own specially adapted AR-15. In the United States the pro-gun lobby is fighting hard to quash any restrictions on gun ownership, and as this power documentary testifies, despite the alarming rise in gun crime, there are plenty of parents keen to raise the next generation to be more gun-obsessed than the last.
