RDF RIGHTS LAUNCHES OVER 200 HOURS OF PROGRAMMING
14 October 2008
RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group, is launching over 200 hours of brand new US programming internationally at MIPCOM 2008.
This month RDFR has secured an exclusive deal to represent the international TV rights for VBS.TV (Vice Broadcasting Systems), the online video network created by Vice magazine and film director Spike Jonze. Launched in March 2007, VBS is recognized as the industry leader for original content on the web, with its edgy mix of global news, music, culture, sport and all the weird things in-between. Wired magazine called VBS, “loud, fast and dirty…perfect for Internet video”. VBS.TV and RDFR are now co-developing new programming for the international TV market, based on VBS’ web output, with a total of 31 x 30’ episodes combining four different VBS strands; VBS; Vice Guide to Film; Vice Guide to Travel; and Toxic, a series uncovering international environmental issues previously overlooked or misrepresented by other news organizations.
RDFR and Scott Satin Productions have begun collaboration on a number of projects. RDFR is representing finished programme and format rights to Smile…You’re Under Arrest, produced by Scott Satin for Fox in the US. The brand new 11 x 30 minute reality series constructs elaborate sting operations in cooperation with police authorities to lure fugitives from justice out of hiding and arrest them. Scott Satin and RDFR are also co-developing new clips shows based on Scott Satin’s long running and successful Most Outrageous Moments franchise.
The long-standing collaboration between RDFR and tru TV continues at MIPCOM, with 90 new hours of programming. New series include: Rich and Reckless,The Principal’s Office, Ski Patrol - Crystal Mountain, Secret Ops and Disorder in the Court. Also new for MIPCOM is Jail, a Langley Productions series for MyNetworkTV and truTV. RDF Rights represents series 1 to 3 totalling 37 x 30’ episodes, with unprecedented access to life inside America’s jails.
On the RDFR slate from US broadcaster VH1 is a second series of The Pick-Up Artist and Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew. Celebrity Rehab is scheduled to premiere on VH1 on 23rd October 2008 and will follow a new set of celebrity patients undergoing detox at a centre in the Los Angeles area. RDFR has picked up the international rights to The Factory (6 x 30’), the first original comedy drama series from Spike TV in the US, produced by 3 Arts Entertainment. Also making its market debut is My First Date a 30’ dating format from Asylum Entertainment for MTV 2008. My First Date is a lively dating show format which follows the expectations, promise and courting rituals as young couples embark on their very first date.
RDFR is unveiling series 4 of the fabulously successful dance format So You Think You Can Dance? at MIPCOM, produced by 19 Entertainment/dick clark productions. Finished programmes and format are available. From RDF USA, RDFR will be showcasing Coolio Rules for Oxygen, the upcoming The Secret Millionaire for Fox and Ladette to Lady USA, which will be broadcast on MTV in the US early next year. Jane Millichip, Chief Operating Officer at RDF Rights said: “This is our largest ever launch slate from the US. We have collaborated with broadcasters and producers alike to bring an impressive and varied slate of programming to MIPCOM that previously may not have been available to international buyers due to the fact that US broadcasters normally retain all rights. This is an exciting development for us.” In addition to this raft of new US programming RDF Rights has brought over 250 new hours of UK and international programming to MIPCOM 2008.
