RDFR SECURES BEING HUMAN DEALS

18 June 2009

RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group, is delighted to announce it has secured a second co-production deal with BBC America for series 2 of hit BBC drama Being Human, plus a raft of international sales.

RDFR’s VP of Sales, Anthony Appell, brokered the co-production deal with BBC America for series 2, which will air in a primetime slot in 2010. The channel has also picked up Being Human Uncovered (1x50), the documentary behind the series as well as internet rights to blogs and behind-the-scenes interviews. RDFR and BBC America have already concluded a co-production on series 1 of Being Human, which will premiere in the US on BBC America at 9pm on Saturday July 20, following Torchwood in the schedule.

RDFR has also made a raft of finished programme sales of both series 1 and 2. Series 1 has sold to
Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s digital channel ABC2, BBC Worldwide Channels Australasia, Sky TV in New Zealand, Cuatro in Spain, DBS Satellite Services in Israel, SVT in Sweden and VRT in Belgium. BBC Entertainment in Africa and Poland and Globosat in Brazil have bought both series 1 and 2. Onboard Media has also picked up series 1 for Virgin Atlantic.

ABC DVD has picked up the rights to DVD sales in Australia and 2Entertain has the rights to the DVD in the UK.

This thrilling comedy drama, produced by Touchpaper Television, first aired this year on BBC Three in the UK, and follows three extraordinary twenty-somethings as they attempt to live normal lives while protecting their secret identities as a werewolf, vampire and a ghost. Russell Tovey, Aidan Turner and Lenora Crichlow star.

The critically acclaimed drama was re-commissioned for a second series (8 x 60’) earlier this year after the huge success of series 1 on BBC Three. It achieved almost double the audience compared to the BBC Three slot average; with BBC i-player downloads adding 30% to the overall TV audience viewing figures. It was also the top performing BBC mobile programme site and the second most viewed BBC vision blog.

“It is a testimony of the strength of the drama that BBC America has committed to series 2 of Being Human, even before airing the first series. We are thrilled that they share our confidence in the brand,” said Jane Millichip, COO of RDFR.
