06 October 2009
RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group is delighted to be presenting its new drama slate at MIPCOM 2009.
NEW SERIES
MURDERLAND (3 x 60’ + feature length)
IWC for ITV1
RDFR is proud to be launching Murderland, a knife-edge thriller of revenge, redemption and rough justice starring Robbie Coltrane for ITV1, produced by Touchpaper Scotland. Available as 3 x 60’ or as a feature-length movie, it is an emotional and complex murder story told partly through flashback and from the different perspectives of two central characters: Carrie, the traumatized daughter of the murdered woman, and Hain (Coltrane), the detective in charge of the investigation. Acclaimed writer David Pirie (Murder Rooms, Woman in White) wrote the series.
THE QUEEN (5 x 60’)
Blast! Films for Channel 4
Also new to the catalogue this autumn is The Queen. The 5 x 60’ series from Blast! Films for Channel 4 is a ground-breaking drama-documentary about the key turning points in the life and reign of Queen Elizabeth II. Five leading British actresses play the monarch at pivotal times, and, via a mixture of dramatised scenes, news archive and testimony from royal insiders, each episode centres on a specific crisis in the reign of Elizabeth II – a period of monumental social upheaval.
SINGLE-HANDED (3 x 120’)
Touchpaper Television for ITV1 & RTE
Single-Handed, a huge success for ITV1 this summer, originally for RTE, reflects one policeman’s quest to serve a rural community…Single-Handed. Available as a 3 x 120’ or 6 x 60’, the critically acclaimed series follows Jack Driscoll, a Sergeant with the Irish police, posted to the remote coast of West Ireland, the area where he was born and raised. The precinct is vast, the terrain extreme and the community lives on the edge; there is nowhere to hide. Stationed more than 40 miles from his superior officers and with specialist backup hours away, Jack is used to thinking on his feet. When Single-Handed premiered on ITV1 in August it achieved an average of 3.7 million with a share of 17% across the series, with the first programme attracting an impressive 4.4 million viewers.
RE-COMMISSIONS
ABOVE SUSPICION: THE RED DAHLIA (3 x 60’ + 1 x 120’ & 1 x 60’)
La Plante Productions for ITV1
Above Suspicion from La Plante Productions for ITV1 returns with Above Suspicion: The Red Dahlia, following the huge success of the first series featuring DC Anna Travis. This 1 x 120’ & 1x 60’ (also available as 3 x 60’) sees Travis reunited with the inimitable DCI James Langton, to face her most challenging and terrifying case yet. When the body of a young woman is discovered by the Thames, sadistically mutilated and drained of blood, it would appear to be an ghastly re-enactment of a famous unsolved murder from 1940s Los Angeles, dubbed the Black Dahlia. However, the underlying sexual friction between Travis and Langton threatens to derail the investigation. Langton and Anna must pull together to stop this depraved copycat killer before he strikes again.
BEING HUMAN II (8 x 60’)
Touchpaper Television for BBC Three
After the phenomenal success of series one, RDFR returns to Cannes with series 2 (8 x 60’) of Being Human, currently in production for BBC Three. The thrilling comedy drama follows the lives of George, Mitchell and Annie as they attempt to live normal lives whilst protecting their secret identities as a werewolf, a vampire and a ghost.
TV MOVIE
WILD DECEMBERS
Touchpaper Television and Octagon Films
RDFR also brings Wild Decembers to MIPCOM 2009. The 1 x 90’ film is produced by Touchpaper Television and Octagon Films for RTE, and marks the first time renowned novelist Edna O’Brien has adapted one of her own novels for television. As a centuries old feud flares up, it threatens the happiness of two young lovers. Wild Decembers is the beautifully crafted and stunningly-shot story of Michael Bugler who inherits his uncle's dilapidated mountainside farm, unaware of a centuries-old bitter feud with the neighbouring family, the Brenanns. When he catches a glimpse of Breege Brennan through a window of the farmhouse he’s struck by her ethereal beauty. Michael and Breege start a passionate affair that ultimately leads to tragedy.
