RDFR secures pre-sales for series 2 of BBC Three hit drama Being Human
06 October 2009
RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group is delighted to announce that series two of Being Human has been picked up by several territories internationally. Following the success of the first series, the second series of the hit BBC Three drama from Touchpaper Television is currently in production and the eight episode series will air in early 2010.
Fox International Channels Espana has picked up both series one and two for Portugal and Portuguese speaking Africa. France Televisions in conjunction with Orange have acquired both series as have NRK in Norway. In addition, AXN Central Europe has picked up series one for Central Eastern European territories. Series two is also co-produced by BBC America.
Being Human follows three extraordinary twenty-somethings as they attempt to live normal lives whilst protecting their secret identities as a werewolf, vampire and a ghost. Russell Tovey, Aidan Turner and Lenora Crichlow star.
The first series was a huge success for BBC Three earlier this year, achieving almost double the audience compared to the BBC Three slot average; with BBC i-player downloads adding 30% to the overall TV audience viewing figures. It was also the top performing BBC mobile programme site and the second most viewed BBC vision blog.
Jane Millichip, COO of RDFR said: “We are delighted that so many broadcasters internationally share our confidence in Being Human, and have pre-bought the series prior to MIPCOM. It is a fantastic endorsement of the quality, popularity and durability of the drama.”
RDFR has already secured a raft of international deals for both series one and two earlier this year as well as brokering a co-production deal with BBC America. Series one has sold to Australian Broadcasting Corporation’s digital channel ABC2, BBC Worldwide Channels Australasia, Sky TV in New Zealand, Cuatro in Spain, DBS Satellite Services in Israel, SVT in Sweden and VRT in Belgium. BBC Entertainment in Africa and Poland and Globosat in Brazil have bought both series one and two. Onboard Media has also picked up series one for Virgin Atlantic.
