RDFR presents brand new format slate at MIPCOM 2009

05 October 2009

RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group will be showcasing several exciting new format programmes at MIPCOM 2009.

New to the catalogue this autumn is a 20 x 45’ series (and format) for BBC Two; Instant Restaurant, presented by Nadia Sawalha (Eating In The Sun). Produced by RDF Television West, the series focuses on the talents of amateur cooks serving up everything from good old-fashioned British grub to more exotic fare, taking us into homes which celebrate the diversity of the UK. In each show, two households will go head-to-head to see who can make the most profit with a three course menu to impress their guests, served up in the perfect ambience of the “restaurant” they create for one night only - in their homes.

RDFR also launches How the Other Half Live from RDF Television. A success for Channel 4 earlier this year, the 3 x 60’ series with a further 8 episodes in production, aims to expose just what it means to grow up in poverty in 21st century Britain. How the Other Half Live follows the story of two families in each programme, as a wealthy family decides to assist a family living below the poverty line in the UK. Many people give money to charity in the UK and abroad - by bringing families from different backgrounds together, and making the giving more personal and direct, the programme raises important questions about how we respond to poverty on our own doorsteps.

The Big Food Fight (5 x 30’) is a brand new food quiz from betty for Channel 4, with a generous seasoning of both the culinary and the comedic. In each show, a well known food personality takes the role of team-captain, challenging resident captain Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall (River Cottage), in a bid to discover who knows the most about all things edible.

RDFR also brings I Married a Stranger to Cannes this week, the format (pilot also available) from A Smith for Fox Network USA, is a high stakes premise in which unlucky-in-love singletons allow their friends and family to select their spouse for them. In a jaw-dropping reveal, the bride and groom meet for the very first time at the altar. At that moment, they must decide to say, “I do” or “I don’t”…

In addition, RDFR also launches The Shrinks, a 30’ or 60’ format from Rival Media for RTE. A resident crack team of pint-sized young problem solvers is on hand to sort out the grown-ups. With an age range from 10 to 16 years-old, a team of five adolescent agony aunts and uncles come together to combine their wisdom and show the light at the end of the tunnel. No problem (or person) is too big or too small for the team of intrepid teeny trouble-shooters as they attempt to show the grown-ups that youth is no barrier to wisdom.

RDFR also brings to MIPCOM its established and successful format titles including So You Think You Can Dance, The Secret Millionaire, Don’t Forget The Lyrics!, Perfect Recall and Ladette to Lady.
