RDFR is proud to present landmark US series ‘Circus’ at MIPTV 2010

RDF Rights (RDFR), part of the RDF Media Group, will launch Circus, a landmark documentary series at MIPTV. This spectacular 6 x 60’ series, produced by Show of Force for PBS (USA), combines breath-taking HD action with intimate portraits of circus life to chart a year in the life of the world-renowned Big Apple Circus.
Circus is created, executive produced and directed by Emmy and Sundance award-winning film-makers Maro Chermayeff and Jeff Dupre. Chermayeff and Dupre spent 11 months at work, rest and play with the 165 international performers, organizers, and support staff of the Big Apple Circus, who inhabit this ‘city without a zip code’. It is a world unto itself – with its own rules, social structure and lingo.
High-wire, trapeze, and acrobatic performances were filmed at 400 frames per second on the-state-of-the-art Phantom HD camera; resulting in stunning close-up and slow-motion action sequences that capture both the dramatic tension and the unrivalled skills of the performers. Meanwhile, Stedicams were used inside the ring to give the performers’ POV.

Circus will feature at the heart of the PBS schedule later this year.

Show of Force
The series is created, directed and executive produced by Show of Force partners, Maro Chermayeff and Jeff Dupre. Chermayeff’s credits include; Co-Creator, an Executive Producer, and Director of CARRIER, and a Producer and Director of the critically acclaimed PBS/Channel 4 UK reality series FRONTIER HOUSE. Dupre is a Producer of CARRIER and of the multiple Emmy Award-winning PBS series BROADWAY: THE AMERICAN MUSICAL. He is also the Director and Producer of OUT OF THE PAST, which won the Audience Award for Best Documentary at the 1998 Sundance Film Festival and aired on PBS.
